Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments Directive
This Directive on non-automatic weighing instruments is based on the principles of the “new approach” to technical harmonisation and standards. In accordance with this new approach, the design and construction of non-automatic weighing instruments are subject to essential safety requirements.
ACT: Council Directive 90/384/EEC of 20 June 1990 on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to non-automatic weighing instruments.
Scope
The Directive applies to non-automatic weighing instruments used for:
- Commercial transactions.
- Determination of weight for toll, tariff, tax, bonus, penalty, payment, indemnity, or similar fees.
- Medical practice, including weighing patients for health monitoring, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Pharmacy prescriptions and laboratory analyses.
- Determination of prices based on weight for direct sales and pre-packaged products.
Essential Requirements
Non-automatic weighing instruments must meet essential metrological and design requirements.
Placing on the Market
Only instruments that meet the Directive's requirements can be placed on the market.
Conformity Assessment
Mandatory compliance assessment includes EC type examination and verification.
CE Marking
Conforming instruments must bear the CE marking along with required inscriptions.
